Condolences

Condolence From: Julia Krushkal and Ron Adkins
Condolence: We were deeply saddened to learn about Ranajit’s passing. We both knew him as a brilliant senior colleague who always had an uplifting attitude. He was a great pleasure to interact with. He was also one of the mentors for one of us - Julia had a tutorial rotation with him, and he was a member of her graduate committee. Interactions with him and his seminar presentations were always very interesting and intellectually stimulating, and it was a wonderful learning experience. During the work on the tutorial project, he appeared to have written a manuscript draft in one day or overnight, which seemed amazing at that time to his junior colleagues. We will always miss his bright mind and his cheer. Please accept our deepest condolences.

Condolence: As others have said, Ranajit was such an excellent scientist but what came through was his gentleness and good humour, and his focus on academic excellence but not in the highly competitive way of so many others. Such behaviour has had some much a positive impact on our field and those of us that were lucky enough to work with him. Thank you, Ranajit.

Condolence: Ranajit was an outstanding population geneticist, with substantial contributions later in his career to forensic genetics. He left us too soon.

My wife and I still remember the Chakraborty's gracious invitation to dinner when we spent time in Houston many years go.

Condolence: Ranajit was my mentor and advisor. He not only introduced me in the Satistical Genetic field, he also taught me about science and how to be a scientist. I always remember his kindness and patience for me. His legacy goes beyond the country borders. My sincerest condolences for your loss.

Condolence: Dr. Chakraborty was a brilliant scientist, incredible mentor, and friend. He would always take the time to explain a problem and would never treat you as anything less than an equal. He helped me tremendously through the hurdles of being a graduate student. He was always there to lend a helping hand and navigate me through. Additionally, I always knew to bring a special donut for Dr. Chakraborty to committee meetings. Just watching the joy that would spread across his face was pure happiness. Dr. Chakraborty will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Condolence: Dr. Chakraborty was a great mentor, he gave me my break in Statistical Genetics and for that, I will be forever grateful. He was so humble of his achievements and genius that made him truly inspirational. I hope I can pass on all that I learned under his tutelage and make him proud. He will be missed dearly.
